Central Plains Water

CPW Stage 1, completed in 2016, covers 20,000Ha between the Rakaia and Selwyn Rivers.  Aquaduct supplied pipe while Bosch was a subcontractor for the installation of the pipe for the distribution works

Aquaduct produced more than 130 kms of large bore PE pipe for CPW Stage 1. Pipe diametres range from 1600mm to 200mm. Construction of the project began for Aquaduct in August 2014 with the relocation of the factory from Valetta to Hororata. The Scheme was commissioned in September 2015 and is bringing life giving water to the farms of the region.

Stage 1 of the Central Plains Water Scheme irrigates approximately 20,000 hectares of farmland in the Canterbury Plains in an area bordered by the Rakaia and Hororata Rivers. An intake at the Rakaia River directs water into a 17km long gravity fed headrace.

The Bosch Trencor 1360 65 tonne trenching machine with bespoke screener and a ‘padding machine’ were worked in tandem with CPW contractors to trench and fill the 130 km pipeline before the next irrigation season opened.
